Study objectives

The Business Management and Regenerative Leadership programme equips students with management and development expertise and tools needed in today's evolving business environment in both private and public sectors. In the common advanced studies of the programme, the focus is on topics such as present and future challenges in business management, operational transformation and change management, and innovation development.

In complementary studies, students can choose modules to support their individual objectives and career paths. The programme thus offers a good basis for the management of one's personal life and career. In addition to advancing students' professional development, the programme helps students achieve an investigative and developmental approach to their professional practice. The programme has a strong international dimension and multidisciplinary nature.

Study contents

The advanced studies in the programme consist of the following courses:

• Futures and Strategies 5 ECTS
• Digitisation and Customer Relationships 5 ECTS
• Cross-Cultural Management 5 ECTS

• Renewing and Regenerative Leadership 5 ECTS
• Process Management 5 ECTS
• Innovation Management 5 ECTS

The course assignments are linked to the development of the student’s own work organisation as much as possible.

The student may choose elective complementary studies from the shared course offering of Lahti UAS Master's programmes and/or from the offerings of other Universities of Applied Sciences and universities. A personal study plan is drawn up with each student at the beginning of the programme, which takes into consideration the student’s prior Master's level studies and competence gained through work experience as much as possible.

Structure of studies

The Business Management and Regenerative Leadership programme (90 ECTS) in Lahti UAS's Master’s Degree Programme in Business Administration consists of:

1. Common advanced studies in business administration 30 ECTS
2. Elective complementary studies 30 ECTS
3. Thesis 30 ECTS

The programme is designed to be completed in two years alongside with work. There are usually two or three contact sessions per month, usually on Thursday and/or Friday 9:00 am–4:00 pm. The studies include extensive independent work, virtual studies, and a thesis in the form of a research-based development project.

Choosing a main subject or field of specialization *www

This programme does not have specialisation options. A personal study plan will be drawn up with each student.

More about the language of instruction *www

The language of instruction in the advanced studies is primarily Finnish. One course is provided in the English language only.

The thesis is the core of the UAS Master's degree programme. It is a research-based development project, which can involve the student's workplace organisation or be completed at the UAS level, for example. With the thesis, the student demonstrates professional competence as well as the ability to apply various development and research methods and the use of scientific literature. Students usually undertake research towards the thesis throughout the programme.

Qualification *www

The programme leads to a Master of Business Administration degree. The Master’s degree corresponds to the same EQF (European Qualifications Framework) level as other Finnish second cycle degrees (e.g. Master's degrees at universities) and leads to the same eligibility for certain public sector positions and other roles.

The development of Master's degree students' international competence is supported in many different ways. The most important forms of internationalisation include the opportunity to attend courses in the International Business Development programme, participation in international networks, seminars and projects as well as student exchange through various exchange programmes, and work placement opportunities abroad.

Co-operation with other parties

The Lahti UAS Master School is a joint coordinating body of the Lahti UAS faculties that offer Master's programmes (Business Studies, Social and Health Care, Technology and Design). The Lahti UAS Master School annually organises several courses common for all sectors, which students can include in the advanced studies.

Career opportunities

The Master’s degree programme in business administration provides students with broad-based and in-depth knowledge needed in demanding and independent development and management roles.
