The aim of the programme is to develop management and development competencies that support service reinvention in the health and social care sector. By creating new role structures and service delivery methods, service chains can be made seamless and statutory services in health and social care can be delivered with better efficiency.
Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to work in demanding expert, development and leadership roles or as entrepreneurs, and be able to
•manage social and health care services in a proactive, transformative and ethical manner
•transform and integrate the social and health care service system towards customer-oriented, high-impact service chains
•develop the workplace organisation, competencies and well-being at work from a strategic perspective
•manage people and competencies in continuous change.
The core competence in the programme consists of the modules of social and health care management and transformational management. The student can choose complementary competence from the multidisciplinary course offering (including futures management, research and development studies, business competence). The thesis is conducted as a research-based project designed to develop a workplace organisation based on its needs.
The scope of the programme is 90 ECTS credits. The core competence accounts for 30 ECTS and complementary competence also 30. The thesis scope is 30 ECTS.
The programme period is 2017–2019, and it is delivered mainly in the form of daytime and blended learning. There will be 2–4 days of contact learning each month.
The programme qualifies graduates for public positions and services requiring a Master's degree.
The language of instruction is Finnish, and one course will be taken in English.
The thesis is a research-based development project, which can be the student's own project or a research and development assignment from Lahti University of Applied Sciences, a partner institution or other regional organisation. Students are expected to apply research methods and development methodology in their thesis projects.
The programme qualifies students for public positions and services requiring a Master's degree (in social services, certain services and positions have different qualification criteria).
The programme includes one English-language course as well as international lectures and workshops arranged as part of other courses. Students have the opportunity to go on an exchange period abroad through the Erasmus programme.
The international symposiums during the programme are organised in cooperation with the HAMK and Laurea Universities of Applied Sciences and European partner universities. In addition, the student can select courses from other universities of applied sciences in the FUAS federation (the HAMK and Laurea Universities of Applied Sciences).
Master's degree holders are eligible to apply for a scientific or artistic postgraduate programme at a university.
