Koulutuksen tavoite

Master´s education concentrates on the newest trends and topics in Information and Communications Technology. Focus is on utilizing the ICT possibilities to boost business, industry and the public sector. The programme aims to promote multidimensional understanding and better cooperation between different fields of ICT, including software-based services, infrastructure and usability, as well as ICT environmental issues.

Koulutuksen sisältö

The main issues in professional studies are gamification, user experience, mobile technologies, big data, virtualization and cloud based services in wide perspective. Elective studies can consist of environmental technology or societal change and future foresight methods for example. Students can choose elective studies also from other LUAS Master programmes or FUAS Master programmes (in Laurea UAS and HAMK UAS).

Research subjects cover professional targets mentioned above in a large scale. Research is industry orientated and aims to adapt results in practical situations as well as to promote multidimensional understanding and cooperation between different fields of ICT. The methods used are chosen according to the aim.

Opintojen rakenne

Master’s Degree in Engineering consists of 60 ECTS credits

• Professional Studies 20 cr,
• Elective Studies 10 cr,
• Thesis, 30 cr (includes ICT Reasearch Methods)

Master’s education is built around intensive weeks: 3 weeks during autum 2015 and 3 weeks during spring time 2016. One course will fill up 4 days per intensive week. A course will also include supplementary work to be done before and after the intensive week. One day from intensive weeks is mainly reserved for the thesis work. Autumn 2016 is reserved for thesis finalization (some days for supervision) and will not include intensive weeks.

Opinnäytetyö

Thesis is an important part of Master’s degree education. During the thesis work, students accomplish a development/reaserch project usually for the ICT Industry. Aim of the thesis is to educate the student to apply theory in practice, develop professional work processes, solve problems independently and comprehensively and document the work according to the standards of the ICT industry. Thesis work is also a good way to profile the Master’s degree education.

Pätevyys

Student can plan, develop, manage and evaluate individually a challenging ICT project. Student is able to use interactive and agile methods in project management and document the project using standard procedures used in the ICT industry.

Kansainvälistyminen

The language of the degree programme is English. Visiting teachers/researchers from LUAS partner universities are integrated into intensive week programme. Also international examples and practices are used in education. International student exchange is available to Master students also.

Yhteistyö muiden toimijoiden kanssa

During the education students are in close co-operation with the ICT industry and public sector. Some of the organisations are international companies.

Uramahdollisuudet

The studies provide wider working opportunities in public sector and private enterprises depending on the combination of the student´s Bachelor's degree, working experience and Master´s thesis. Typical career opportunities are: ICT Manager, Scrum-master, Software Architect, Head of an ICT Team, Senior Designer etc.

Postgraduate study opportunities are available on national or international level but students are urged to find out special requirements posed to Master students graduated from universities of applied sciences.
