Koulutuksen tavoite

The Degree Programme in Business Information Technology prepares students for digital business expert roles.

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will have a comprehensive understanding of future-oriented, innovative business operations. You will be able to automate business processes and implement service chains with the latest technologies while taking into account customer needs. You will have a command of agile and flexible methods and the ability to organise and lead based on analysed information.

Koulutuksen sisältö

The contents of the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology are designed in cooperation with businesses and with an eye on future competence needs. The programme prepares students for a range of roles involving digital technologies.

In the first year, you will develop a good foundation in various aspects of digital business and learn to create your personal learning path. You will be able to choose from business, tourism, technology, design, and social and health care studies as well as a range of multidisciplinary modules in service design, circular economy and entrepreneurship. You will build a competence portfolio that demonstrates your ICT project and language skills.

As you proceed further in your studies, you will have access to various learning environments, including traditional classroom-based learning, online learning, business organisations and projects as well as events, the campus radio, the students' media agency and others. All these provide opportunities to learn by doing real-world tasks. Towards the end of the programme, you will gain practical experience by working in the organisation of your choice. You will be supported and assisted by a tutor teacher throughout your studies.

Opintojen rakenne

In the first stage of the programme, the focus is on core competences. During the first year of study, students familiarise themselves with the basics of business administration and the utilisation of related applications. In addition, they learn common techniques used in ICT, such as web production, programming and data security.

In the second year of study, students develop advanced expertise required in ICT systems building, such as skills related to data warehouses and service businesses. In addition, students can start to develop in-depth expertise in areas such as development of web applications using agile methodologies.

In the third year of study, students focus their learning on personal areas of interest, such as eBusiness solutions or the acquisition and deployment of information systems, familiarise themselves with working life development methods and entrepreneurship, and develop skills through work placements.

In the final autumn term, students take in-depth study in subjects such as the role of ICT in the service sector and undertake a thesis designed to respond to real-life workplace requirements.

Programme delivery

During the programme, students apply theoretical knowledge in practice in various ways. Self-initiative, collaboration, innovativeness, creativity, multicultural skills and the ability to present solutions to other people are given emphasis.

Courses can be done in several ways. Students learn independently by working in groups of different sizes both in contact sessions and in virtual communities. During the programme, students participate in projects implemented in cooperation with local workplace organisations and in different types of development projects. The programme includes a practical training period which carries 30 ECTS credits and allows students to build their expertise by working in real-life workplace settings.

The programme is comprised of modules which include ICT studies as well as core competencies of other fields, such as interaction skills, languages, business management, well-being services, service expertise, etc. The business information technology courses are delivered jointly in the Monitori learning community by students and staff of the Business Information Technology Programme and the Faculty of Technology Degree Programme in Information and Communication Technology. The community maintains active network contacts with the labour market and international partners by training practice-oriented and innovative ICT professionals.

This programme does not have a main subject. You will build your competence profile through module choices.

Opinnäytetyö

Your thesis project can be action or research-based. The thesis project is completed for a client organisation towards the end of the programme. This is also a great opportunity to build contacts with employers. You will be able to apply your knowledge and skills gained during the programme, and you will be supported by a personal thesis supervisor.

Pätevyys

The degree title is BBA / Bachelor of Business Administration (tradenomi in Finnish). The qualification is suitable for various private sector roles as well as public sector positions with eligibility criteria including the applicable UAS qualification.

We offer our students diverse opportunities to gain international experience. You will be able to complete part of your studies at our partner institutions around the world and spend work placement periods in other countries. Our language courses are designed to help you develop extensive and diverse language skills. English language courses provide opportunities to network with students and teachers from different cultures.

From the outset of the programme, you will have opportunities to apply your knowledge and skills in various real-world tasks including projects commissioned by workplace organisations.

Tutkimuksen painopisteet

Your studies will incorporate workplace development tasks in cooperation with businesses and workplace organisations. Multidisciplinary workplace-oriented projects, RDI projects and a range of learning environments (student cooperatives, M.IDEA, Neloskerros, LAMKES, LimuRadio, SimulTi, Fumatec, Linkku, etc.) help you build strong contacts with employer organisations.

Upon graduation, you will be qualified for a range of roles requiring digital competencies. Depending on your personal learning path, you will be able to do the following: provide ICT support to end users, build new applications, draw up digital service process descriptions, deliver agile projects, build user-centred online stores, and design value-added digital solutions for businesses.

Jatko-opintomahdollisuudet

Graduates who have gained at least three years of work experience can apply to a UAS master's degree programme. Suitable postgraduate options also include programmes offered by science-focused higher education institutions and master's degree programmes in computer science, economics and business administration.
